When Should My Child First Visit the Dentist?

Many parents wait until something looks wrong before booking a dental visit. But the ideal first appointment is much earlier than most expect — by your child’s first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth coming through.

Why so early?

An early visit is less about treatment and more about prevention and comfort. It lets us spot tiny issues before they grow, guide you on feeding and brushing, and — just as importantly — help your child feel completely at ease in the dental chair.

What to expect at the first visit

  • A gentle look at teeth, gums and bite as they develop
  • Friendly, playful introductions so there’s no fear
  • Advice on brushing, fluoride and diet for your child’s age
  • Plenty of time for your questions — never rushed

Building a lifetime of healthy habits

Children who start early tend to grow up seeing the dentist as a normal, even fun, part of life. That single shift prevents anxiety, decay and costly treatment down the road. If your little one hasn’t had a first visit yet, it’s never too late to start gently.
